Alfred "Alf" Mossman Landon (September 9, 1887 – October 12, 1987) was an American politician from the Republican Party. He served as the twenty-sixth Governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937. He was the Republican Party's nominee in the 1936 presidential election, but was defeated in a landslide by incumbent President Franklin D. Roosevelt who won the electoral college vote 523 to 8. Landon was the 1936 Republican presidential nominee. He lost to Franklin D. Roosevelt, but had the second highest number of votes out of a number of contenders for the position.
